Osada-Ryū literally means "the school of Osada" and traces back to Osada Steve. Born in Berlin, he came to Japan over four decades ago as a photographer and discovered Kinbaku through his work with performances by Osada Eikichi. His training led him not only to Eikichi Osada, but also to influential masters such as Akechi Denki and Yukimura Haruki. As a special recognition, he was given the name Osada and was appointed by Yukimura Haruki as the first official Yukimura-Ryū instructor. Osada-Ryū therefore combines over 30 years of experience and the knowledge of renowned masters into one style.
A defining characteristic of Osada-Ryū is its clearly structured fundamentals. These provide orientation for beginners, promote safety, and enable a clear and understandable learning path. As a result, Osada-Ryū has established itself internationally and is now regarded as a widely recognized standard.
From the very beginning, conscious interaction and communication between rigger and model play a central role. In Osada-Ryū, these aspects are summarized in the so-called Nine Gates—tools that connect technique, perception, energy, and intuition. They are taught both as a dedicated focus and as an integral part of training, gaining increasing importance for variation and creativity as experience grows.
The Nine Gates consist of the following elements:
For deeper study, Osada-Ryū offers a Kyu system inspired by martial arts. Participants progress through structured content and, after intensive preparation, are examined by certified instructors. Aijō is officially authorized to teach Osada-Ryū and to prepare students for Kyu examinations; the examinations are conducted in cooperation with Kinbaku Studio Vienna (Kinbaku Studio Vienna) and Secret56 under the supervision of a licensed Osada-Ryū instructor.
